There’s always a slight reluctance to help a victim of a road traffic accident in need – what if you get tangled in lengthy police and legal procedures? To encourage more people to help victims – take them to the hospital or call for emergency services, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified guidelines to protect Good Samaritans. \r\n Under these guidelines, the person assisting the victim will not have any civil or criminal liability, need not disclose personal information including her name while calling the police or emergency services, and can leave immediately after taking an injured person to the nearest hospital after providing her address if she was an eyewitness to the accident. The regulations also forbid hospitals from demanding payment, unless the person concerned is a family member or relative of the injured person.
